Description: The African Historical Review is the successor to Kleio: A Journal of Historical Studies from Africa, which was published by the Department of History at the University of South Africa (Unisa) for more than thirty-five years. The journal has more recently been transformed into a publication in which high quality articles on a wide variety of historical subjects have appeared. The mission of African Historical Review, as befits its base in Africa and its new name, is to be transdisciplinary, responsive to theoretical developments in research relating to the continent of Africa and within fields closely linked to historical and heritage studies (including teaching) more generally. We welcome contributions from both established and younger scholars on themes from or in Africa, and would like to encourage innovative writing and research on a variety of topics and with an array of theoretical frameworks.
