PEDL Exploratory Research Grant Programme

January 3, 2013

Special Call for proposals for scholars based in low-income countries

Application deadline: 15 February 2013

The Private Enterprise Development in Low-Income Countries (PEDL) research programme invites applications from researchers based in Low-Income Countries to a special call of its Exploratory Grants Programme.

PEDL invites applications in any aspect of private sector development, with a particular emphasis on PEDL’s priority research areas:

1) Modelling market frictions in LICs using newly available data

2) Micro-foundations of aggregate private sector performance

3) The dynamics of SMEs: Informality and entrepreneurship

4) The role of export-oriented industries in driving growth

We also encourage proposals which address one or more of three cross-cutting themes – (1) gender; (2) fragile and conflict-affected states;  and (3) climate, environment and social compliance.

Recipients of grants under this call will be expected to participate in a 5-day training course to be held in the UK in June 2013, and will be invited to other workshop and conference events over the coming two years. Through these events and links with established scholars, PEDL will provide feedback and support at all stages of the project.

The objective of PEDL is to fund cutting-edge, policy-oriented research that will be published in leading academic journals and enter the policy dialogue in low-income countries. Applications will be assessed on the basis of these criteria.

We expect to fund as many as 10 grants for amounts up to £20,000.

See www.pedl.cepr.org for more details and instructions for applying.

Application deadline: 15 February 2013
