VACANCY: Position of the Humanities Research Fellow at the British Institute in Eastern Africa

BIEA intends to appoint a Humanities Research Fellow on a fixed-term contract of one year in the first instance, to carry out a programme of research relating to the work of the Institute.
The Research Fellow can be from any discipline in the social sciences or humanities. The Research Fellow will develop a post-doctoral programme of research in line with the existing BIEA research themes (as specified on our website). He/she will also assist in other research projects and research-related activities based at the Institute. Applicants should possess a PhD or be close to completing a PhD programme.
Applicants should include a covering letter explaining their suitability for the post, a full c.v., including the names and addresses of two referees, and copies of any relevant qualifications and certificates held. Applications must also include a research proposal of four pages (maximum) clearly stating the key questions and objectives of their proposed research, a clear theoretical framework for the project, an account of methodologies to be used or developed, and the outputs to be achieved. The BIEA is particularly interested in projects which may lead onto larger collaborative work and applications for external funding. The proposal should therefore offer clear and realistic suggestions for this.
Applicants should arrange for two references to be submitted to the Institute by the closing date. Applicants must be able to demonstrate their right to work in Kenya.
